Explanation of Organization and Meaning

This class portfolio, presented in an online format for easy accessibility and a more cutting-edge look, is a representation of the material that I learned over the course of the semester in EDP 101. The syllabus, weekly calendar of material and assignments, and even online quizzes could be found online on the professor’s website to maximize accessibility and learning. He also provided us with various interesting handouts and online group reflections to help us better understand and analyze the course material. This portfolio’s contents are outlined in this easy-to-use flash index.

Syllabus

The online syllabus presented the course in a clear and direct fashion. At the beginning of the semester, it helped me understand what material the course covered and exactly what the professor expected of me in order to get a good grade in the class. Throughout the course of the semester, if I needed to look up how many points an assignment was worth or needed to see what I needed to read the syllabus was handy.

Weekly Calendar

The weekly calendar made keeping track of course material and assignments a no-brainer. The calendar made it easy to follow the material I needed to know and ensured that I did all the assignments on time. It's helpful links to the book website as well as to various handouts helped in learning and understanding the material. This calendar was very helpful to me and I am grateful it was there.

Netpost reflection

The online reflection assignments were a cool way to interact with other classmates and see what they thought about the material we were learning. Although these were easy assignments, I thought it was a drag that we had to do them over the weekend over a fixed timeframe.

Group Investigation Project

My group did our group investigation project on how different genres of music effect people’s emotions, and was entitled The Musical Sentiment: A Look at Different Genres effect on Emotion. Although I had a really good group And our project went very well, I felt like it was a waste of time and I didn’t obtain any learning in doing it. Our project did not incorporate the course material enough and as I result I did not feel as though I had analyzed any course material by writing this paper.

Summary Conclusion

Overall I thought that EDP101 was an interesting course to take as a Miami plan requirement. As I am a biochemistry major the science aspect of the class we learned was rudimentary and was all review for me. However, it was interesting to learn about the psychologists take on the various subjects such as learning, memory, and social behavior. In my science courses I have thus far taken I’ve learned about the complicated science behind how the various human systems function and work together. This class allowed me to broaden my horizons on how this science affects the world and your mind.
